The society in which Wright lived in oppress education, religion, and career aspirations for black people. Blacks were allowed to be educated, and would be unendingly harassed based morose of their color. To avoid conflict, they predominately worked on farms or as manual laborers, but rarely went to school. Black mothers a great deal worked in th e homes of white people taking care of their employers children while their own children were left at home with little to do. Wright feels that in high society to have a better life, he would hire to figure on getting into another world of people (Wright 123).
